What are you thirsty for? Summertime warmth draws us to smoothies, lemonade, ice teas. Winter coolness invites to coffees, hot tea and hot chocolate.

But, deep in our hearts, we can thirst for recognition, admiration, respect, love, relief…what do you drink for these thirsts? How easy it is for us to create wonderful drinks to cool and warm. But, to quench the heart’s thirst we are limited, even disabled.

John Piper writes,

“When we think and feel with God in the Psalms, this is the main result: We come to love God, and we want to see God and be with God and be satisfied in admiring and exulting in God.” Having God’s heart, his mind, his joy is the ultimate thirst quencher!

As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? (Psalm 42:1–2)
