It dawned on me that Peter was with Jesus, but denied Him. Judas was with Jesus, but betrayed Him. Disciples were with Jesus but doubted. Pharisees and Scribes were with Jesus but sought to kill Him.
These thoughts bring me to a conclusion. Being with Jesus is much more than being in the same place or even walking together. It means being one in heart. I can go through all the motions of being with Him and totally miss the intimacy and relationship.
Oswald Chambers writes:
Beware of anything that competes with your loyalty to Jesus Christ. The greatest competitor of true devotion to Jesus is the service we do for Him. It is easier to serve than to pour out our lives completely for Him.
That’s another way to clarify what with Jesus means. With Jesus means so much more than walking with Him, serving Him, even praying for His blessings. It means having the same heart as He about all of life.
