Living with God’s definitions refreshes the heart. His way comes with His power. His way is right before me, leading me toward the next right thing. I need not know about what is around the corner.
Surrendered to God’s definition of righteousness
If we walk in the light as He is in the light…” (1 John 1:7). Walking in the light means walking as Jesus did, to His standards. Sadly, when I live by my own definitions of righteousness, I drift off course a degree at a time. Gradually, I come to the place where I rationalize my sin, even get comfortable with it, until I finally come to the place where I no longer even realize that it is sin. Erosion is so subtle and always destructive. It is activated by the smallest compromise.
Erosion goes unnoticed when you play with temptation until your character is permanently damaged. Charles R. Swindoll

Surrender to God’s definition of priorities
There is a spiritual tension between now-here and then-there. But, this tension is brought brought to peace with Paul’s verse in 2 Corinthians 5:9 which says, “We make it our aim…to be well pleasing to Him.”
As good as it sounds, my first priority, if using God’s definition is not what I do for Him, but seeking only “to be well pleasing to Him.” He alone must define how that is to be lived out each moment.
Is my primary goal in life to please Him and to be acceptable to Him, or is it something less, no matter how lofty it may sound? Whatever that something is, it is less than God’s priority for me. Living under God’s definition of priorities means loving and knowing the One who is leading.
Surrender to God’s definition of relationship
Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalms 37:4
Living in intimacy with the Almighty means being so in touch with Him, at the deepest possible level, that I never need to ask Him to reveal His will. My living and prayer life have matured to entrusting all to Him by faith. I am no longer devoted to my desire but to God himself. When this is true, even my commonsense decisions are actually His will. And, I know that if my decisions are wrong He will lovingly give me that sense of restraint. God’s definition of intimacy in prayer is that I may get to know Him better. Only then are the desires of my heart aligned with His.
I am being drawn into God’s black/white world again. This week’s learning builds on last week’s.
Lord, learning to love to live in the reality of God requires me to give up my sin, and surrender my way of living. I surrender to your definitions of righteousness and priorities, and even to your desire for intimacy with me. May I settle for nothing less than your desires for me.
