Prayer highly exalts and glorifies God precisely by pursuing everything we long for in him.
But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! John 15:7
When I read this promise to receive anything I want and disregard its context I am left with frustration. I have prayed and not received. So, my practical experience doesn’t align with the promise. The context is vital.
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.
Receiving what I want cannot be separated from His words remaining my source of truth and the fruit which results. As His Word permeates my life, my desires are aligned with His. The conclusion is simply that all I want is what brings glory to my Lord. And, that will always be answered!
