At the end of seventy years, the LORD will visit Tyre, and she will return to her wages and will prostitute herself with all the kingdoms of the world on the face of the earth. Her merchandise and her wages will be holy to the LORD. It will not be stored or hoarded, but her merchandise will supply abundant food and fine clothing for those who dwell before the LORD. – Isaiah 23:17-18

The hardened, unfaithful, deeply bound to corruption, is made holy to the Lord and devoted to his people. Flooding into my memory is:

“Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. – Isaiah 1:18

Wherever you read in Isaiah, God has a redemptive plan in mind. The hardened is softened, the unfaithful is cleansed and the securely bound is set free. This is the work of God.

What is hardening in my life? How have I been unfaithful to my Lord? What has taken me captive?
