God’s love to me and through me

This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God. This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him.

1 John 4:7-10 (excerpts)

Reading these verses this morning, I was drawn to its repetitive words…God, love, sent, live. There is no greater love than God’s love. It’s an extreme love…He who had the least reason to give loved the least deserving.

These are no more than sentimental thoughts if we don’t read other verses around them.

My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship with God. The person who refuses to love doesn’t know the first thing about God, because God is love—so you can’t know him if you don’t love.

God showed his love to me and now wants to show his love through me. With his love I am sent to others that they might meet this loving God and live as well. This is a high calling.

Lord, I am loved by you. This takes my breath away. I was swallowed by your love. Help me never lose sight of the preciousness of your love for me. And, help me to never lose sight of the preciousness of your love for others around me. As you loved me and sent your Son, with your love, send me into my world this day. Keep me alert to those who need your ministry of love.
